Igbega Alade: Royal elevation. In the Yoruba tradition when a person passes on to the spirit world they are not gone for ever and our duty to care for them is not done either. After the initial interment there is a 40 day “funeral” and then a one year funeral. Each year after that the family will host an elevation ceremony to continue to strengthen the bond between the spirit world and that of the living. Each family must perform these rituals for their dearly departed. |
