Festival to Mark 50th Anniversary Celebration canceled by the Oba of Oyotunji.
On Monday the King of Oyotunji HRM Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi rolled back his Kingdoms plan to celebrate its 50th anniversary citing the rise in Corona virus case locally and nationally. HRM said " we went in to this knowing that the rise in cases would be a deal breaker of sorts and the rise in cases would be the ultimate decision maker. With over 200,000 dead and may more suffering we should not bring people together from all over the world and potentially become a spreader event." Instead the committee will focus its attention on various ebo and spiritual offerings that are a yearly part of the Kingdoms life. Iya Alaje Olajide has stated that " It is necessary to carry out all rituals that are forecasted by Ifa and observe the ancestral dances. All paraded, Gala parties and large gatherings wont be this year." Those who have plans to come to the Kingdom of Oyotunji should prepare for a more toned down, spiritual flow to things as they celebrate the 50th Anniversary. Fundraisers will be held to fund the historical marker that will sit off of HWY 17 stating to the world Oyotunji's historical significance. Also look forward to witnessing the Annual Egungun ijo ( Main courtyard social distancing measures). The confirmation of chieftaincy titles will be observed on Sunday October 11. HRM Oba Adefunmi said recently " we should look forward to a bit of family and close friends of the Kingdom to convene and enjoy the intimate observation of our golden Jubilee."

Ceremonies and Offerings begin on Saturday Oct. 10
