Grassroots Assembly highlights
Exploring African traditions as a way forward.

Picture

Hotter than the Fourth of July....
or August in the South Carolina Lowcountry, traditional African priests, freedom fighters, sacred community activists and conscious evolutionaries gathered this past weekend in the African town in America. The 43 year Oyotunji hosted the Inaugural Pan African Grassroots Assembly in conjunction with the annual Odun Orunmila, festival of Ifa. Some of the rich and poignant moments of this historic and auspicious occassion have been captured with photos that speak volumes! With close to two hundred omo oduduwa in attendance, there were no dull conversations. Despite record levels of heat and only a few air conditioned buildings, those that came were sent on a mission, in search of the next crucial step in the evolution of our collective destiny. Many left away with seeds well fertilized for action in their respective communities. The fellowship of kindred cultural activists was fulfilled in heaven, ara orun ati aiye, and on earth. Connections and re-connections abound. Partnerships and collaborations have taken root with great potential of flourishing.

"The Pan-African Grassroots Assembly weekend was the culmination of collective efforts and direct action that led to this grand platform for network building and capacity building. As such, Oyotunji African Village is working to maintain relevance by supplying the Village as the backdrop for community activists' cultural gatherings. Overall, this inaugural PAGA was a major thread in the tapestry of the entire redemption of our culture." --HRM Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II
